This Shamrock Shake copycat is the homemade non-dairy dupe you never knew you needed. Rich, creamy, and minty, this shake is a perfect St. Patrick’s Day treat.

Why You’ll Love This Shamrock Shake Recipe:

Not only is this Shamrock Shake easy to make, but it only takes a few minutes to come together, and only needs a few simple ingredients.

How are Shamrock Shakes Made?

The McDonald’s Shamrock Shake is made with vanilla soft serve, mint flavoring, and green food coloring. It’s usually available throughout March for a limited time. But with this recipe, now you can have one whenever you like.

Ingredients to Make a Shamrock Shake:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream:  I used an oat-based, dairy-free ice cream. Feel free to use the kind of your choice, but you’ll want to use an ice cream that is thick and creamy.
  • Non-Dairy Milk: to soften the ice cream and help the ingredients to combine.
  • Mint:  I used fresh mint leaves for this recipe, but mint extract is also a great option.
  • Spirulina: This is strictly for color, but you can use a few drops of green food coloring instead.
  • Whipped Cream: any dairy-free whipped cream will be great for topping.

How to Make a Shamrock Shake:

  1. Add the ice cream, milk, mint leaves, and spirulina to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and combined. A few mint specks are okay.
  3. Transfer the shake to a glass and top with whipped cream if desired.
  4. Enjoy right away.

How to Make the Perfect Milk Shake:

  • Use cold ingredients. Don’t take your ice cream out of the freezer until you are ready to put it in the blender. Especially when using non-dairy ice cream as they tend to melt much faster than traditional dairy ice cream.
  • Adjust your liquid and ice cream as needed. If you notice your milkshake is too thick, add a bit more milk one tablespoon at a time. If the milkshake is too thin, add another scoop of ice cream until you reach your desired consistency.
