What is Dragon Fruit?

Dragon Fruit is a tropical fruit that is high in antioxidants and fiber.  It has a sweet mild, flavor like a pear and its texture is very similar to a kiwi. Dragon Fruit comes in different varieties, yellow skin with white flesh, pink skin with red flesh, and pink skin with white flesh. It goes by a few different names, including strawberry pear, pitaya, and pitahaya.

Is Dragon Fruit Good For You?

Dragon fruit is high in fiber and antioxidants, such as flavonoids, hydroxycinnamates, and betalains which offer a great deal of health benefits.

Where to Find Dragon Fruit?

Fresh dragon fruit is available in most U.S. supermarkets during the spring and summer seasons. Frozen dragon fruit tends to be available year-round.  Asian markets are great for finding fresh dragon fruit at more reasonable prices.

What You’ll Need to Make Dragon Fruit Juice:

  • Dragon Fruit: You can use fresh or frozen dragon fruit flesh. Just be sure the frozen fruit is fully thawed before blending.

How to Make Fresh Dragon Fruit Juice:

  1. Blend the dragon fruit flesh until smooth and combined.
  2. Enjoy chilled.

Helpful Tips:

  • For smoother juice with less pulp, I would recommend using a juicer instead of a blender or straining the juice by squeezing it through a fine cheesecloth.
  • Dragon fruit has a light, subtle flavor so I like to add lemon juice, lime juice, or ginger to enhance the flavor.
