Easy Vegan Baklava-Style Toast (10-Minute Meal)

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe
A baklava style toast, made with vegan cream cheese, toasted walnuts and pistachios, and an easy orange syrup.

Around here we like quick and easy breakfasts, but that doesn’t mean we want to skimp on flavor. I personally enjoy sweet breakfasts, but don't always have time to make pancakes or French toast. So we’ve found ourselves really enjoying toasts loaded up with goodies to fill us up for the morning. Our newest favorite has been this vegan baklava-style toast, made with vegan cream cheese, toasted walnuts and pistachios, and an easy orange syrup. This toast is an easy take on the deliciously nutty baklava dessert.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR VEGAN BAKLAVA-STYLE TOAST

  • Bread: I like sourdough, but I’m sure a french loaf slice or white could work well too.
  • Vegan Cream Cheese: I highly recommend that it be a plain flavor. I use Kite Hill Plain Cream Cheese, but any other brand will suffice.
  • Raw Nuts: Pistachios and walnuts for great flavor and because these are traditionally used for baklava.
  • Agave Syrup: or maple syrup to add sweetness.
  • Orange Juice: For a hint of tart citrus flavor.

HOW TO MAKE VEGAN BAKLAVA-STYLE TOAST

  1. Chop the nuts until walnuts are about ¼ of their original size and the pistachios are about ½ their original size.
  2. Toast the nuts. In a dry skillet, toast the nuts over medium heat until visibly browned and fragrant. About 5-7 minutes, tossing and stirring occasionally.
  3. Make the orange syrup. In a small bowl mix the agave and orange juice until fully combined.
  4. Toast the bread to your desired darkness.
  5. Spread the cream cheese evenly onto the toast.
  6. Top the toast with the nuts and drizzle with the orange syrup.
  7. Enjoy!

I love how easy it is to make this recipe and it definitely satisfies a morning sweet tooth. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!
