These crispy oven-baked tostones are a healthier option to the traditional green plantain tostones or patacones. Instead of being twice-fried, they’re twice-baked. Making them crunchy and delicious, without being too oily.

Ingredients to Make Crispy Oven-Baked Tostones:
- Plantains: green plantains work best as they have not developed their sweetness yet.
- Oil: any high-heat neutral flavored oil will work, but I like to use avocado oil.
- Salt
How to Make Crispy Baked Tostones:
- Preheat the oven to 400℉.
- Peel and cut the plantains into ½ inch slices.
- On a lined baking sheet, toss and coat the plantains in the avocado oil and salt.
- Spread the plantains into a single layer and bake for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, remove the plantains from the oven, carefully smash them, and then flip them over.
- Return the plantains to the oven and continue to bake for an additional 10 minutes or until golden brown.

How to Open and Cut Plantains:
- Cut off the bottom and top tips.
- Make a slice down the length of the skin of the plantain.
- Push your thumb beneath the skin to detach part of it from the plantain.
- Peel the skin away from the fruit, repeating step 3 as many times as needed until the skin is completely removed.
How to Serve Crispy Oven-Baked Tostones:
Serve these while hot and crispy alongside your favorite Caribbean, Latin, or African meal. These can also be enjoyed as a tasty snack.
How to Store:
Tostones are meant to be enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. You can reheat them in the oven on 350℉ for a few minutes.
